Hi ppl!
Although most of my free time is taken up, I still need to come here and post some new shit since I've been receiving more & more questions. I'd never though people around the world were so curious about Peruvians and our crazyass motherland. When I first started this blog, I did because I've always found it funny how foreigners just can't believe how fucking crazy, relaxed, free, and unique we are.
Long story short, I got this mail from a girl from Alabama (yeah the inbred gun-lovers)-

ive to mexico twice and noticed people buy pirate movies they sell pirate dvds and blurays on the streets and the police do nothin. i wonder why they buy pirate if they could just use netflix my friend from colombia says this is common in all latin american countries. they also read pirate books why is piracy so widespread?

First of all, I'll forgive the lack of capitals, comas and periods because, hell, you are from Alabama. (And I also spell gurl with an 'u'.)
This is a topic I absolutely LOVE. Piracy. Culture's best friend. See, when I was a kid, I really REALLY loved literature, and really NEEDED to have a new book every week. I emphasize this because most people from the first world have no idea of how expensive culture is in third world nations. Let's put it this way-
At the bookstore, a book can cost over A FUCKING HUNDRED SOLES.
THREE beers cost about TEN SOLES.
See the huge difference?
Then why do you think we Peruvians -and Latin Americans- have this crazy math going on?
For the same reason Americans have ridiculously expensive health care and really cheap drugs-
It is a CONTROL MECHANISM. No government in the world want people to be free. Of course, some nations have more freedom than others, but in the end all these leaders who make big bucks out of our pockets NEED to have the control. And the best way to enslave people is to make them BELIEVE they are free. In the case of Americans, the government uses mass advertising to create needs- cable TV, fancy cellphones, sneakers, flashy cars, smart TVs, holidays in Hawaii, and other vapid stuff Americans are convinced they NEED. If they don't own loads of useless shit, they feel frustrated. They are also overwhelmed with bills. The average American lives their entire life drowning in ridiculous debts. They have to pay the Kafkaesque college loan, the surreal rent, the stupid car lease, and the creepy health care. As a result, they live scared. Their government want them in line, and scared people are in line- unable to think, question or protest. How can you demonstrate when you have such a shitload of debts to pay? Ok, you can quit your enslaving job and become a rebel, but... who's gonna feed you? who's gonna pay your doctor bills if you get sick? Millions of scared Americans are piece of cake to handle for a government that is way too big to be ever overthrown.

Let's talk about Peruvians now. Of course our government also tries to control us using similar techniques. However, credit card culture is not a deadly social disease in our society. At least not yet. We have a drug issue as well, but again, not even nearly as serious as the one in the States. So what can the government do to ensure we continue living robotically, mindlessly, animalistically, unable to think, react or rebel?- Make culture EXPENSIVE AS HELL!
And not only that- Give the dehumanized masses some cheap poison so they become even more stupid every weekend. Make these numb cyborgs shun books and worship beer as their only pastime. Stupid parents raise stupid kids, and so on.
It breaks my heart to see how the vast majority of people in my country don't even have a book shelf -not to speak about a book budget- but they own a bigass flat screen TV and have the refrigerator full of beer. Beer - and other liquors- are everywhere in our society. And books are nowhere. You won't believe this, but our schools are NOT required by law to have a library.
So what do Peruvians who REALLY want to read do? Well, we have two options-
1) Go to the bookstore and get robbed
2) Go to a pirate place and pay a couple of bucks for a book
I choose number 2.
Oh there's a 3rd option I sometimes use- just download the damn PDF book and read it in my iPod, PC or tablet.
Actually, if I didn't buy piracy, I would be absolutely ignorant. I'd be the typical functional illiterate Latino whose only conversation topics are: food, soccer and beer.

So what does it have to do with movies? Well, not only the motion-picture industry gives us Michael Bay's explosions and J. Lo's ass cheeks- it also gives us culture. Whether it's to learn or just to have fun, movies take an important part of most people's free time.
Why would we use Netflix when we can download any movie we want for FREE?
I follow three series- Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and (slap me) Supernatural. Not once have I paid one cent for them (and I've religiously watched all the seasons.) The same with movies. If I ever want something quick -downloading can sometimes take a while), I just walk a couple of blocks and go to my favorite pirate movie stand. There I get DVD movies for ONE FUCKING DOLLAR, and blu-ray movies for TWO DOLLARS.
The same with software, music and -last but not least- video games. If I had paid for all the songs, programs, movies and books I've ever enjoyed, that would be literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars. Do I ever feel guilty for 'stealing' them? Hell no! And I don't because our government wants me to be ignorant, and it wants my daughter to be ignorant as well. It also wants my grandchildren to be ignorant. It wants the whole Peruvian society to drown in ignorance because it's so easy to steal stupid people's money. So I say NO. I refuse to buy that poison called beer, and I also refuse to pay hundreds for books. I don't care if a writer, producer or program developer stops profiting because of me. I really don't. Culture is just as vital as water or air, and if I ever was left without water or air, of course I'd steal them if I had no choice because I treasure my life and my family's.
I get mails from Netflix announcing how 'cheap' it is to see their movies. And I laugh. I laugh so hard it makes me sad. Poor bitches. They think they can take one cent from me while I only have to -literally- move a finger to download any movie I want. This is my message for Netflix, Hollywood, iTunes and -of course- Peruvian government- I'm just not going to be one more robotic consumer.
