George Zimmerman & Racism
I'm breaking my promise (this entry should be about soccer) but man! Soccer can wait a couple of days when the media whores throw a bigger, deeper smoke screen to deal with.
First of all, I don't know if George Zimmerman is guilty. There's a whole process going on. And although I'm 70% sure that Zimmerman deliberately killed Trayvon Martin because he was Black, I can't be 100% positive because: (1) I wasn't there (2) I'm NOT following the entire process, so I don't have ALL the info on the case, and (3) Neither I buy into the media whores' trash information nor I believe the sick arguments of racist groups whether they are Black or White. No KKK or Black Panthers. No respect for those who create and support race-based groups. Let's try to be objective and patient. Let's weigh evidence. Let's be fair.
BUT there are things I can tell for sure about this death, which is not an isolated case in the US, where folks are shot everyday because they happen to be Black, Hispanic or White. Not only is ethnicity an excuse to shoot one another in a society where drugs and guns set up the perfect scenario to unleash darkest instincts mindlessly. 15-year olds holding shotguns take a school and take also revenge of the bullies by slaughtering them. Deranged 20-year olds make their Die Hard dreams come true in a mall taking the lives of kids, teens and grown-ups, maybe scoring imaginary points in their drug-fueled minds.

The whitened teeth of American hypocrisy shines brightest at moments like this, where there are obviously deeper issues on the table than gay marriage, Kony 2012, or whether Romney is a Mormon or Obama is a Muslim. Economy is NOT recovering despite what the media whores claim. And ignoring the Occupy Wall Street movement -which has turned national- is not helping thousands of youths who realized they have no future. And, of course, it's the same whitened-teeth hypocrisy that censors the 'N- word' in the media but allows Blacks to be slaughtered by LAPD and Hispanics to be hunted by Arizona vigilantes. And, last but not least, the same hypocrisy that bans the 'N-word' from TV shows BUT allows Blacks to mock and humiliate Whites openly in sitcoms, stand-up comedies and movies.
Most people in my country got it wrong too. Racism does not mean discriminating on the darker-skinned ones. It goes both ways. Damn, it goes ALL Ways. It's not about doing something to protect ONE specific ethnic group. As a light-skinned Latino, I'm used to facing racist comments and poor treatment by some dark-skinned Peruvians who feel entitled to do so just because they are darker and -supposedly- only 'whites' can be racist. Recently, a European-looking 13-year old Peruvian boy was beaten at a movie theatre because he was rude and offensive to a couple of dark-skinned grown-ups. The beating was justified by the Peruvian media whores, which never considered the fact that he was a freaking 13-year old. And of course, the comments were all about the 'stupid whitey who deserves a spank', that 'pale bastard' or the 'blond blue-eyed motherfucker who hasn't been taught manners.' Not to mention what was said about his parents.
I'm not saying that it's acceptable to go around being an asshole and insulting other people using racial slurs. What I mean is that racism is often justified in certain cases by the mainstream. Racism was acceptable here when a light-skinned 13-year old got beaten by two grown-ups. What's happening to us? Are we slowly moving into 'politically correct lynching'? Racism has run amok here and -as far as I know- it also has in most nations. And certainly, there's no place like the US when it comes to running amok at anything.
Let's FORGET George Zimmerman is White (or Hispanic) and Trayvon Martin was Black. This is MURDER what we are possibly talking about. The possible murder of a 17-year old. AND the possibility of putting in jail a man who PROBABLY acted in self-defense. If he's innocent, he should be released free of charges. If he's guilty, of course he should get life sentence!
But it's much, much easier to make things racial. To reduce a social issue deeply rooted in American culture by picturing it as a 'hate crime.'

I feel so disgusted by this that it inevitable reminds me of Albert Einstein's quote:
"I don’t know what weapons will be used in World War III, but in World War IV people will use sticks and stones."
Finally, back in my Peruvian reality, where we have no Zimmermans or Martins to worry about, I'd like to add something. We are not afraid of using whatever 'slurs' we feel like, even among friends and family. Where I come from, we do not live in constant fear of being sued -or shot- for using the wrong word. Black, White, Indian, Jew, Fat, Short, etc., are used everyday, both in a friendly and insulting way. But we're not killing each other. We are not. We don't sleep with guns under our pillows or 'support to right to bear arms' (or the right to ARM BEARS, like they do in Mississippi.) We just don't. We use words to protect ourselves. Sometimes we argue. In very rare occasions we get into a fist fight for racial things. And you know what? We use HUMOR. Not the kind of humor some African Americans use to humiliate their fellow Caucasians. We laugh at ourselves. And again, we don't have guns. Maybe that's the reason why we're not shooting at each other at schools and malls?
Yeah. I celebrate the fact that I live in a country where we can openly use the 'N-word' -and whatever word we want- but we won't hunt another human being to shoot them in the face.
